Communication Skills

Good communication is vital in any industry.  Whether you work for an outside firm or a part of an internal accounts team, you will interact with colleagues on every level. As an accountant, you will have to learn to convey complex information in the simplest way possible. Most of your clients will not understand accounting terms and principles, so being able to communicate complex information in a way that is easy to understand is essential.

 

Commercial Awareness

This is the knowledge of how and where a business fits in the marketplace. It involves intentionally keeping ahead of industry changes and developments. Knowing how companies are affected by economic, social and political movements, how they forge ahead and evolve. It’s about mastering your craft!

 

Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm is contagious! Keeping a positive mindset and attitude is crucial, as well as the energy you bring to your team. Being enthusiastic about work demonstrates that you are willing to learn and that you care about the positive influence you bring to the workplace. No one likes a Debbie Downer!

 

Integrity

People buy and support brands and individuals that they trust. The same applies when you are building your career. Clients need to know that you are credible and trustworthy. The more credibility you have, the more people will trust you. Credibility is the currency that you will trade on!

 

Resilience

Being resilient will be a vital part of life, especially in your career. Staying the path through difficult times, deciding to push forward after failure and a determination to not give up will be key to your success. Having a vision and setting smart goals will help you stay resilient! Surround yourself with people that inspire and motivate you to be your best. International Work Experience

Having international work experience will add another arrow to your bow! Most companies are looking towards expanding and most often this is linked to overseas trade. So if the opportunity arises, spread your wings and fly!
